The firm hosted a webinar on July 15th at 10 a.m. PT exploring the intersection of Medicare and employer-sponsored health plans. Presenters Mary Powell and Sarah Kanter shared practical guidance on navigating these complex rules as follows:
- a basic overview of Medicare Part A and Part B;
- an explanation of the Medicare Secondary Payer rules, including (i) when Medicare is primary, (ii) the prohibition against group health plans taking Medicare eligibility into account for purpose of providing benefits, and (iii) the impact of these rules on the coverage offered to domestic partners;
- the interaction between Medicare and HSA eligibility; and
- an explanation of COBRA qualifying events related to Medicare, and how they impact COBRA coverage.
