Nicolas concentrates his practice in the area of employee benefits, with a focus on defined benefit and defined contribution qualified retirement plans, multiemployer plans and executive compensation. Nicolas represents plan sponsors, trustees, and other fiduciaries in transactional matters, as well as assisting with compliance of various federal and state laws applicable to employee benefit plans.

During law school, Nicolas served as the Executive Production Editor for the Hastings Business Law Journal. Nicolas interned at the Employee Benefits Security Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor where he conducted civil and criminal investigations of private pension, health care, and other employee benefit plans to ensure compliance with the fiduciary responsibility standards of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

Nicolas served as a law clerk for the Social Enterprise & Economic Empowerment Clinic where he served as outside counsel for social enterprises, nonprofit organizations and small businesses on corporate and transactional matters. Nicolas also completed a summer semester at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) focusing on international intellectual property transactions.
