Craig’s practice focuses on federal tax and ERISA matters relating to the design, implementation and operation of tax-qualified retirement plans. He has over thirty-five years’ experience working in this area.

Before joining Trucker Huss, Craig most recently served as General Counsel for the American Retirement Association, (“ARA”), a national organization of over 20,000 members who provide actuarial, consulting, administrative, legal, investment and other professional services for qualified retirement plans and tax-sheltered annuities. At ARA, Craig’s responsibilities included acting as Director of Regulatory Affairs where he interacted with high ranking officials at the Treasury Department, the Department of Labor and the IRS on matters of retirement policy. Craig also spent time on Capitol Hill meeting with members of Congress and their staff. He had previously served ARA as President, a member of the Board of Directors, Co-Chair of the Government Affairs Committee and Co-Chair of the Political Action Committee. Prior to joining ARA, Craig served for over 19 years as General Counsel to the Relius division of SunGard which is now part of Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. (“FIS”).

Craig has testified before Congress on tax and pension matters and was an expert speaker at the first Saver Summit, jointly sponsored by the White House and Congress. In addition, Craig has spoken at numerous meetings on the subject of qualified pension and retirement plans, including: the American Retirement Association Annual Meeting; the Western Benefits Conference; the National Institute of Pension Administrators Annual Conference; the Los Angeles Benefits Conference; the Enrolled Actuaries Annual Conference; the Creative Pension Seminar sponsored by the Ohio State University College of Law; and the UMKC Law School Annual Employee Benefits Institute.

Craig was a charter member of the first IRS Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Governmental Entities. He was awarded the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Institute of Pension Administrators. He has been a Fellow in the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel for over 15 years. Presently, Craig serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Pension Benefits (Wolters Kluwer) and the Journal of Pensions Management (Henry Stewart Publications). Craig’s articles have been featured in numerous publications, including: the Plan Consultant; ASPPA-Connect; the Journal of Compensation and Benefits; the Journal of Pension Benefits; Pension and Benefits Week; Pension World; and RIA Pension Alert.
