Julie practices in all areas of employee benefits and ERISA compliance. She focuses her practice on health & welfare benefit plans, Section 125 cafeteria plans, short-term and long-term disability plans (including California Voluntary Disability Plans), COBRA, HIPAA, USERRA, 401(k) plans and qualified retirement plans. She also represents clients in Department of Labor investigations.

Julie is chair of the HIPAA, COBRA & State Insurance Regulation Subcommittee of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation Employee Benefits Committee. She is a frequent speaker and has made presentations for the American Bar Association, the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, the International Society of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists and the San Francisco Chapter of the Western Pension and Benefits Conference. Her topics have included Cafeteria Plans, California Health Care Reform Laws, COBRA, Consumer Driven Health Plans, Domestic Partner Benefits, EEOC "Erie County" Regulations, ERISA Claims Regulations, ERISA Electronic Disclosure Regulations, ERISA Summary Plan Description Regulations, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPAA") Portability, EDI, Privacy and Security Regulations, Health Reimbursement Arrangements, Health Savings Accounts, Hurricane Katrina Employer Responses and DOL and IRS Relief, Medicare Part D, Qualified Medical Child Support Orders, the San Francisco Health Care Security Ordinance, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (“USERRA”), Voluntary Benefits, the Department of Labor’s Voluntary Fiduciary Correction Program and Wellness Programs. Julie’s article on Qualified Medical Child Support Orders (“QMCSOs”) was published in the Employee Benefits Journal. Her article on COBRA Continuation Coverage was published in the Employee Benefits Digest . Prior to joining the firm, she spent eight years designing domestic and international employee benefit plans for a major international oil company.

Julie was named by Corporate Counsel Magazine as one of "The Best Lawyers in America" in employee benefits law in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
